Projectors may seem like they are one and the same, but when it comes to deciding which one to actually buy… enjoy the rabbit hole.
Heads up, I don’t aim to get the most expensive variant, but instead I aim to find the best value in relation to its quality.
I hope this guide will help you decide which projector is right for you!
That being said, let us now dive into the world of projectors.
What will be the main purpose of the projector?
First and foremost, you need to decide what function your new projector will play in your life. We have the following options:
1) Movies – If you are as much a movie fanatic as I am, you will regret getting anything less than a 4k resolution variant. In 2020, you have the following resolution options to pick from, 720P (low quality), 1080p (medium quality), and 4k (High Quality).
2) Shows – If you watch network cable television or stream network based shows, a 1080p projector will absolutely serve you well… if you prefer Netflix,HBO, or any streaming company that supports 4k, you will want 4k.
3) Games – This option is the least hyped about, but let me tell you, its a blast playing both co-op and single player games on a 120″ screen. While 4k is preferred to “future-proof” gaming, the more important factor to focus on is the projector’s input lag. The slower the projector is at receiving and conveying information, the less fluid the game will be and thus less enjoyable.
4) Work – If you’re going to use it for basic spreadsheets and the like, get the basic 720p. If you’re planning on getting it for “work”, but actually plan on using it for some secret lunch break action, charge that business visa and treat yourself to a business expense.
What dictates quality? I’ll discuss some of the factors on the next page.
